Heat Rash Treatment

Prickly heat, or miliaria rubra, is a skin condition caused by obstruction of the sweat glands. It occurs most often in infants, but adult heat rash is not an uncommon occurrence, particularly during the warm summer months. Prickly heat can occur anytime the body is exposed to sunlight or very warm temperatures and not properly ventilated. When the sweat glands are blocked, excess moisture is retained and results in irritation of the delicate skin. Infant heat rash occurs most often in the diaper area, which is particularly predisposed to warmth and moisture.

Shake on Some Powders: Corn starch, fine ground oatmeal and baking soda all do wonders in easing the itch. You can add some to your bath and soak in it or you can lightly rub it on the rash. This will help to soak up any sweat and moisture. I would recommend corn starch as it's softer on your skin than thick powders. It is economical and can be found in grocery stores.

Heat Rash also can appear as large, reddened areas of skin. Babies and children are also more likely to be affected than adults because of their underdeveloped sweat glands, in which case the rash is commonly found in the nappy area and in the skin folds or on the neck. Heat Rash can also occur in cooler climates when sweating is a problem.

The power of vitamin C against the pain of prickly heat was demonstrated in a more controlled study carried out in Singapore by dermatologist T. C. Hindson, of the British Military Hospital there. It began with one of those happy accidents that the history of science is so full of. An Australian Air Force officer, troubled by a rash in his groin that had resisted all medication for a year, told the doctor that it suddenly cleared up in the course of a week when he caught a cold and started taking 1 g of vitamin C a day.

The treatments for oily skin are very simple and completely natural. For starters, you want to keep your skin clean and be careful about what cosmetics you use. Some can produce reactions which will cause your skin to oil up quickly. Wash your face twice a day with a natural soap without moisturizers. This will dry out your skin very well. Make sure you wash with hot water and then rinse with cold to close the pours. You can also use mud packs to remove oil. There are many good and natural ones on the market. And finally, if you smoke, stop.

Some doctors recommend leaving it alone but I prefer to treat it early because I have seen many cases whereby the crust becomes so thick that whenever it is rubbed, large chunks of hair comes off leaving a very red and raw looking area. Treatment is to apply a liberal amount of baby oil to the affected area about 20 minutes before the baby's bath. This will allow the crust to become soft and easy to remove. During the bath, apply a little baby shampoo to the head and using a soft hair brush or face cloth, gently brush or rub the crust off. Do this once a day until the crust has been completely removed.

It generally occurs on the face of infants - usually the cheeks, though it can spread to the chin and forehead. When this type of acne is mild to moderate, it is unlikely to lead to permanent scarring. However, if the acne is severe, scars can occur that last into adulthood. Those babies who develop severe acne usually get acne vulgaris when they reach the teenage years. Acne vulgaris is the most common type of acne people suffer from.

Another sore occurring in the mouth is a canker sore. A canker sore is totally different from a cold sore or fever blister. The latter is caused by a virus. A canker sore is not caused by a virus. And canker sores are not contagious. A canker sore is a small, very painful, ulcer in the mouth. It is covered with a gray membrane and is surrounded by a red halo. There is no effective treatment but they usually disappear in a week or two. To avoid discomfort, children that are affected should avoid the foods that aggravate the pain and rinse their mouths with salt water after each meal. They should also drink plenty of liquids to avoid dehydration.
